Higher Education Unbounded (HEDU) was founded in 2014 as an entry to the Helsinki Challenge competition which is part of the 375th anniversary of the University of Helsinki. The objective is to challenge higher education, go beyond taboos, democratize education & rethink democracy. It sees this challenge as an opportunity for collective learning – for a brighter future of the higher education – and for building together a new world view.

During the Challenge, we developed our thinking in a collaborative way. We set our challenge as “how to teach the unteachable”, in the conditions of multiplying and conflictuous knowledge in the contemporary information societies. Our answer is the WeQ Pedagogy, which goes beyond the surface of the comfort zone of tamed and framed knowledge, to the unteachable, marked by taboos, questions, conflicts and new knowledge.
